grpck(ADM)

grpck -- check group file

Syntax

/etc/grpck [ file ]

Description

grpck verifies all entries in the group file. This verification includes a check of the number of fields, group name, group ID, and whether all login names appear in the password file. The default group file is /etc/group.

Lines in /etc/group that begin with ``+'' or ``-'' are entries used by the Network Information Service (NIS). These entries are not required to specify a GID or users membership list, however, grpck checks them if present.

Diagnostics

Group entries in /etc/group with no login names are flagged.

Files

/etc/group
/etc/passwd
