Listening on a UDP port

Hi there,
I would like to know if it's possible to have a program listen on a udp port for incoming messages, and if so how the port forwarding/port translation works.
I already have a script which I tried unsuccessfully, so I assume that it's not possible without knowing how to translate port numbers..? I am on solaris host.

Hello,

udp port forwarding is set up just for debian so far.
if there are more users that are interested in it, there is a possibility to nat/forward to other hosts as well.

Please, explan what do you plan to do with udp ports and convince the users and us admins that this is safe to allow and will not (and can not) be abused.
