Which is the fastet BSD box

Postby podadan » Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:45 pm

Hello, first I'd like to thanks the team! I got my shell account a few years ago, I learned lot and now I am running my own debian server at home. Zoli is a great administrator, I wish I could run that many server smoothly and in a secure way!

I am currently looking for new experience, i'd like to try BSD. Which is the fastest box? I mean the less crouded?

Thanks.

Hello,

the fastest BSD box is FreeBSD, but NetBSD is the BSD box with the lowest number of users.

Is the registration process handled automatically?

I submit the registration form for an account on freeBSD, but I always get back on the same page, which is reloaded... nothing in my email.

hello,

the page is reloaded just if there are some ERROR messages like, wrong username, to short password, invalid security code etc.

Once the application is accepted - the "account accepted" page should appear.

... and polarhome does not send confirmations to given e-mail address - but uses newly created polarhome e-mail address instead that you can read by given password.

For example: you request an account say podadan on FreeBSD box.

Welcome mail and MySQL account details (if requested) will be sent to podadan@freebsd.polarhome.com e-mail address.

You can read that mail after 5-10 minutes at http://www.polarhome.com/horde/ by choosing freebsd.polarhome.com server
Regards,
Z

Thanks for this detailed answer. I still can't register, I don't get any ERROR message, I tried both IE and firefox. I'll try again later with another computer running konqueror.

BTW: when asked which is the fastest box I mean the one on which shell navigation is the fastest. Is it freeBSD ?

Regards.

Hi,

I just tried and it works.

Maybe it gives you some error message but you didn't notice?

I did look carefully for error messages, but saw nothing. In a few hours I'll be able to try on another computer.

Thanks for your attention.
