Java on RedHat

Why isn't there java installed on RedHat and could it possibly be installed?

hi,

it is installed an old IBMJava2-131 in /opt directory - but it has been removed frompath because of performance reasons... but it is free to use, if you need.

Maybe we should consider updating the Java environment. Please, let me know if you need some newer version.

There is a problem though. When I try to run any java program (along with /opt/IBMJava2-131/bin/java itself), I get this:

I'm standing now with one hand typing and one hand on a U.S. $10.00 bill, properly enveloped and addressed to Stockholm. Just before I send the app form on its way across the pond, is there a best version of Linux for a person who wants to make use of java technology at polarhome . com? Possibly Solaris.

So far, I can't find a policy or FAQ or Search answer to the issue of how a person might change from a [template, at this point] account within the Redhat community to, say, Linux version 'J' -- if the answer to my first paragraph's Q is some system, 'J'.

It occurs to me I might best request a change right on the app form, before I am "full-shelled" [-- if there is a reason to change, depending upon whether Java is facillitated more easily on one operating system shell over others.]

redhat is a nice and fast box... also has java installed:

Also freebsd, solaris, aix and some other hosts has some version of java installed. Because there were not that many java developers (or just it worked without any problem) there might be some process quota issues, that we can easily handle.

From other side I would not recommend "moving you account around", because if it would allowed it would be an administrative nightmare. Can you imagine a system administration when 100k accounts are moving around 15 servers.
