Squeezing maximum internet speed

Please suggest some methods/tweaks for getting maximum speed from the internet on linux platform.

I'm afraid I don't understand exactly what you want . For example, do you want to increase server performance, or decrease the amount of traffic, or something else? Could you please elaborate?

Sorry for the inconvenience!
Basically I am looking for managing inbound and outbound traffic targetted towards the speed as well as the security.
Aim is to:
1): Find the tweaks (Something like MTU settings or any other(HW/SW)to fetch maximum from the ISP ).
2): Controlling the bandwidth (Server for a LAN).
Means server performance at full throttles.

hi,

you can not change MTU as you like but you can shape your traffic with different queuing mechanism.

You can't really do anything about 1), your isp/carrier has full control over that.

About MTU settings...I remember on wint I read about registry tweaks similarly while exploring on Linux I opened my modem configuration in /etc/mymodem/my_device and I found the following line (default).

pppd $PORT 115200 debug usepeerdns defaultroute connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v "" at+crm=1 OK "atdt#777" CONNECT' disconnect '/sbin/rdisconnect' mtu 400

I changed mtu to 1500 and I found some improvement.
