Needing some semi-n00b help

Postby gamerD00d » Thu Mar 17, 2005 4:40 pm

OK, I'm slightly new to this gateway stuff.
I've done some reading, but I think I'm at a stuck point - here's my whole situation::

At my workplace, they have a proxy that blocks most high ports, such as IRC's default 6667-???? range..
I'm allowed to install any freeware I need to do my job, and IRC (I feel) is one of those. NO ILLEGAL ACTIVITY or ABUSE is going to take place from me. Primarially I'd like to get onto FreeNode and talk to my fellow Gentoo Linux user friends when I have down time (which is a lot). BTW, I've recieved authorization from my regional director to do this - so please keep the flaming down to NONE.
I might also want to set up an internal IRC server for the help desk.

So here's where I'm at now -- I can't connect to irc.polarhome.com:8080 like it says on the ports list, but I CAN connect on port 8000 to the proxy.
When I connect, it says IRC didn't give a password, and to use /QUOTE PASS yourpassword:
* Connecting to irc.polarhome.com (8000)
-Welcome- psyBNC2.2.2
--psyBNC- Your IRC Client did not support a password. Please type /QUOTE PASS yourpassword to connect.
-> Server: PASS (masked)
--psyBNC- Wrong Password. Disconnecting.
* Disconnected

Can someone AIM me and help me figure this stuff out?? I'm on AIM all day (they let those ports through easily for some reason) - so some live help would be GREAT!! Thanks in advance people!

Seems that the public irc proxy doesn't exist anymore.

And that port 8000 is someone's private irc proxy. which is also the reason why polarhome can't connect to QuakeNet and other popular networks that scan for proxy ports.

*sigh*

now I took that g-line Id [465] and checked on quakenet's site.
comes up with this;

Open proxy details

The following open Proxies were found on your IP:
HTTP-Proxy that supports the CONNECT-Command on Port 6588

these are the ports you need to block, Zoli;

done...

I added proxy block code years ago to route/forward scripts - but never checked.

There was a syntax error, and it was never executed correctly :(

Now it should be OK.
Sorry for caused inconvenience - it was my fault that all these years polarhome had open proxy ports (that was always asked and named by Denis several times )
Regards,
Z
