I have some problems at configuring the freeBSD config file for using
freeBSD on a pc to act as a gateway for my Windows box. The problem is
that i don't know how to define the device drivers and the network drivers to work. I read all about recompiling a kernel but nothing helped me. The problem is how to find the irq adres and port for the devices on my machine. I tryed 14 time with the LINT and Deafault kernel config but when I try to compile the kernel it gives me and error about keyboard and other device that are not present or aren't correct configured, and of couse I adapted the config file to my machine.
P.S.
I'm using freeBSD 4.9 for i386 platform.

Wait-a-sec, what errors [if any] do you get when using the *stock* kernel?

incompatibility with your netcard or something of that sort?

Dont use LINT. - LINT is evil...

What error were you getting in the kernel compile? - One is assuming you ran make buildkernel KERNCONF=YOURKERNEL then make installkernel KERNCONF=YOURKERNEL or did you build it the old way?

Also when you were doing this were you emptying /usr/obj correctly as dictated?

Hmm ... I think you've removed too much from it.

hi,

I agree with sjaz... whew you want to run your system? I guess on your watch or pda.
Otherwise you may use GENERIC config file and remove things that you are sure that you do not need.

The kernel must be configured for a firewall, and I don't have a Intel Pentium Itanium with Hyper Threading and 1TB HDD disk, so i think that you should be so sarcastic.

I think your being incredibly rude. Both Zoli and myself are proficient admins and are aware of what constitutes the kernel in fbsd.

My gateway firewall router runs on a p133 with 32meg of ram so lose the sarcasm.
