VIM on OpenVMS/VAX

Postby mcsuper5_vax » Fri Jan 01, 2021 9:13 am

Is vim installed on vax.polarhome.com?

If so, what do I need to include in login.com use it?

I'm not positive if I was getting errors that the path was wrong or if I had insufficient permissions to run it.

I tried to download it, but it is no longer available via ftp.

I'm using Putty on Win10 and a fairly standard multimedia US QWERTY Windows keyboard without a PF1 or Gold key in sight; so EDT is only a little better than CREATE.
Not that I remember how to use it anyway.

Hi,

sure, VIM is installed on all polarhome systems - including VAX.
...but you are right. The VIM82 directory was not readable by the WORLD, that is now solved.

You do not need to include anything - the following logicals and symbols should be set by default.

SYSTEM@vax$ sh symb vim
VI*M == "$ VIM:VIM.EXE"
SYSTEM@vax$ sh log vim
"VIM" = "DUA2:[UTIL.VIM82]" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)
SYSTEM@vax$ vim --version
VIM - Vi IMproved 8.2 (2019 Dec 12, compiled Feb 6 2020 22:49:56)
