How long does it normaly take to get access?

Postby buggin_hpux-ia64 » Wed Jul 30, 2014 2:09 pm

Hello,

I few days ago I signed up for a template account but I do not seem to have access to anything other than this forum so far. How long does the process normally take? Also I would like to look into getting shell access next. Do I need to create a different account for each different system I wish to access like one for AIX and one for HP-UX?

Thanks,
Brett

Hi,

template accounts are created within 5 minutes (it's a cron job)...
Unfortunately, the hpux-ia64 server is powered off, because it simply can not stand the heat in the server room.
This is the reason why your account is not created or your mail is not accessible.

Polarhome servers' status overview http://www.polarhome.com/service/status/
Polarhome servers' status information http://www.polarhome.com/service/statistics/global/

Shell access is activated upon request according the http://www.polarhome.com/service/policy.html ASAP.

Please use HPUX/PA-RISC if you need to have a stable account - for mail access for example. The IA64 server do not perform well in polarhome's server room environment.

Polarhome accounts are independent... it means that buggin_hpux-ia64 can be a different person than buggin on hpux or buggin on aix.
In the near future (during autumn) I'll implement system wide account creation - because many users already requested this functionality.
Regards,
Z

System wide account creation sounds fantastic, are you thinking something like a NIS or LDAP backend?

Yes, LDAP was the original idea, but there are systems that do not support modern of authentication - like Ultrix, Openstep, VMS etc... therfore it will be a smart server side application that does the following:
- checks if the desired username exists on any systems
- if not, call the current account creation for every host one by one.

This is easy to develop and it is rather efficient with the old systems too.
