CGI trouble on Netbsd

Postby papa » Sat Jul 16, 2011 5:47 am

Hi. Sorry to have been absent from Polarhome for so long. :(

Of course, it's trouble that brings me back.

I have some CGI scripts on my Netbsd web site (for example, http://www.polarhome.com:743/~papa/cgi-bin/fortune.cgi) that were working a week or so ago, but now all return the following error page. Any advice?

Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.

Hello,

I started to migrate netbsd to a new hardware with NetBSD 5.1 and I have some trouble with MySQL and cgiwrap.
I plan to sort out all problems with freebsd, netbds, openbsd, ubuntu and debian this week.
Regards,
Z

I see you're making progress. Thanks for working on this.

I now get a new error page when I try to access the same CGI script I tried in the inital post, even though file permissions are set correctly (-rwxr-xr-x 1 papa users 164 May 21 2010 fortune.cgi):

Hello,

after the migration the php and the cgiwrap is not set up at all.
So far polarhome had lot of troubles with PHP access rights and CGI access. I plan to deploy an unique, more secure and easily controlled solution... but I have not come to that (host migrations got higher priority ) - but it will come soon.

After 2.5 years, is there a chance of "soon" coming soon? ;)

I guess it's been that long since I've checked the CGI scripts myself, but the same problem is still occurring. I know it's not your top priority, Z, but it would be nice if CGI scripts worked on NetBSD.

Thanks as always for keeping Polarhome up and running.

I am sorry, but after moving BSDs virtual the CGIwrapper has not been configured.
This is a manual job for every each server - I'll try to do that - at least on netbsd - until end of the week.

I am sorry :(

Indeed this "end of the week" was again some one and half month long... but it is finally done.
I am really sorry for the delay.
You may use cgi extension for whatever, pl for perl in the cgi-bin directory.
...also php is allowed for all users.

So far all this just on NetBSD - but gradually I'll implement on all other hosts.

...this NetBSD box drove me crazy. For some reason the web server crashed form time to time.
So, I simply removed and installed a new one and if I were there added dozens of new packeges.

...now this server became a really nice place to be :)
