v5srvtab(SFF)

v5srvtab -- default service key table

Description

/krb5/v5srvtab is a binary file that contains the encrypted passwords (keys) for server principals. The contents of this file can be viewed and edited using the ktlist(ADMN), ktadd(ADMN), and ktdelete(ADMN) commands. The kpasswd(TC) program modifies this file automatically if the -host option is specified.

The v5srvtab file allows the secure service daemons ftpd(ADMN), rlogind(ADMN), rshd(ADMN), and telnetd(ADMN) to access their current password to decrypt Service Tickets sent by authenticated clients to verify the clients' identity.

For security reasons, this file should have owner and group root, and should only be readable and writable by root (permissions 600).
