VSM Help Information for Users and Groups Manager

Note: The information contained in this article is structured as help information for Visual Systems Management: Users and Groups Manager and is not intended for use as a procedural or conceptual article.

Template Name

Defines the string that identifies this users template on the system. It is often a good idea to associate a users template with the kind of user that you can create from it.

A users template contains a set of user attributes with many of the attribute values defined. Typically each template contains the values common to a specific kind of user. When you need to create a user that has those common attribute values, you can create a copy of the template (by dragging and dropping it in the Users pane of the Work Area) instead of trying to remember the command and parameters that defines each attribute at the command line.

To enter a template name, enter a string of one to eight bytes in this field. You can use letters, numbers, and some special characters in the name; however, you cannot start the string with a - (hyphen), + (plus), or ~ (tilde), or use a : (colon) in the name. You cannot use the key words ALL or default in the string. You can use a file extension to distinguish this template from other similar ones.

The system stores the values for your templates in the .Guidefaults file in your home directory.

Note: You cannot leave this field blank.
