Eggdrop DCC and telnet connection problem

Postby darian05_suse » Sat Jun 02, 2007 11:03 pm

hello everyone, i have a strange problem with my newly created eggdrop on suse.polarhome.com shell.
i compiled it correct and it is running on the server where it shud. from my home computer i can login with dcc correctly. but from my work PC i cant. i added the hostmask for my work PC to my account on bot. but it even doesnt open a dcc connection. also ctcp chat isnt working.
one friend tried it to access too, and failed like me. but another one from austria got entrance. how can this be?
me and my 1 friend are customers of german telekom (p*.dip.t-dialin.net or dip.t-ipconnect.de) but at home i use another provider. can it be german telekom is banned from the polarhome.com network?
i am the global bot owner set by first login.

Hello,

polarhome does not have global ban on networks (except for sendmail because of spam, but this does not consider your eggdrop problem).

From other side, I have a feeling that some of your provides closes some ports - that is an usual ISP habit.

Also, companies may have its own firewall rules that does not allow you connection to non standard ports.

You should contact your companies IT support regarding this issue.

Z

i am my IP support myself :)

Postby darian05_suse » Sun Jun 03, 2007 10:21 am

i am my companies IT support :)
i am a computer seller and work most of the week alone in the shop. my router is active of course, but i dont think there are ports blocked. ill have a look on monday. on the PCs i have only the winxp or winvista firewall running, not an extra one. and it didnt ask me if i want to connect.
when my friend connects to the bot, i see a ctcp being opened from the bot. to IP 192.168.178.20, which is the internal IP for the first PC behind AVM fritz box router. why does it not connect to the right outer IP?
and, the other question is, how can i telnet the bot? with my other shells i once had i telnet to bots vhost with the listening port and got access (mostly ;) ) but here i dont know to which IP/URL i shall telnet.
thx for help in advance

still problem from work

Postby darian05_suse » Mon Jun 04, 2007 2:01 pm

ok, I did. nothing happened except unable to connect.
even when i login to my shell and try telnet from there it tries to connect and doesnt work. unable to connect or connection timed out.
but when i use a script i only can use this way as being an operator, it works for me. this shows the bot knows me who i am. but i cant connect to it.
i tried dcc chat enterprise, i tried dcc chat suse.polarhome.com:53535, i tried the IP behind suse.polarhome.com:53535
it shows correctly connecting to ip (53535) and waits and then unable to connect.
but from home it works immediately.
i dont know where the error is anymore.
can u access suse.polarhome.com port 53535 from telnet asking for username and password? or doesnt it connect as well?

yours Darian

~> telnet localhost 53535
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.

Connection closed by foreign host.

There might be a suse firewall problem, but then I do not have explanation that it works for you from home.

Dillon, suse's admin should take a look.

Hi all,
I did find a small problem in the firewall which I think caused the issue.
Could you please try it now?

Thanks,
Dillon

connection from shell works now but not from IRC

Postby darian05_suse » Tue Jun 05, 2007 10:28 am

the connection by telnet localhost works now for me too. thx!

but the connection from IRC is still unavailable at work, but from home it works.
-----------------------------------------
/ctcp enterprise chat

DCC Chat session
-
Client: Enterprise (192.168.1.112)
Time: Tue Jun 05 10:07:00 2007
-
Acknowledging chat request...
-
Unable to connect
-
DCC session closed
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

in bots partyline:
CTCP CHAT: from Darian (~felixthec@Darian.user.OGameNet)
[s->] PRIVMSG Darian :DCC CHAT chat 3232235888 53535

and thats all, nothing anymore happens
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

/dcc chat enterprise connects and connects and waits and nothing. but i also see a request on bots partyline.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

and /dcc chat suse.polarhome.com:53535 happens that:

net: connect! sock 3
DNS resolved 84.130.99.193 to p548263c1.dip.t-dialin.net
Telnet connection: p548263c1.dip.t-dialin.net/1026
net: connect! sock 12
net: eof!(write) socket 12 (No route to host,113)
Timeout/EOF ident connection
Refused telnet@p548263c1.dip.t-dialin.net (invalid handle: 100 Daria)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

strange behavior. i enabled the .tcl and .set command for me (bot owner) and enabled .console +mjkcobrxdwv (msgs, joins, kicks/modes, cmds, misc, bots, raw, files, debug, wallops, server output) that I see server input and output. but not much happens to be seen.
i wonder why at the last try to suse.polarhome.com the error is invalid handle: 100 Daria -> where comes that from?

in IRC my data is:

Whois: Darian (~felixthec@Darian.user.OGameNet) is David Stefan
Server: WHF.OGameNet.net
~felixthec@p548263c1.dip.t-dialin.net 84.130.99.193 Actual user@host, Actual IP

Maybe the ports needed for DCC connection are closed by a firewall in your work's network?

Obviously if you say that everything works fine from home, while it fails from work, you should investigate your work network. You can check if a port is open at http://www.canyouseeme.org/ .

Also check the comments in your conf file, maybe you need to set the IP in the config, in some cases if does not get auto detected.
