The strangest thing is happening to me on my shell account I just got set up for on the mandrake server.

I got into CPAN [which said I needed ncftp--so I d/l'ed that and told cpan where it is] but whenever I try to get or install a package [even small packages with no dependencies] I get the following error:

cpan> install Net::IRC
CPAN: Storable loaded ok
Going to read /home/m/melinate/.cpan/sources/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz
Going to read /home/m/melinate/.cpan/sources/modules/02packages.details.txt.gz
  Database was generated on Thu, 12 Aug 2004 01:04:21 GMT
CPAN: HTTP::Date loaded ok
Killed

I am not sure where to go from here to install the packages I need for my program to run. Any suggestions?

Thanks DenisF!

The program I'm trying to run is an IRC-bot [not eggdrop, but somewhat similar]. Here is the list of dependancies, most of these are probably installed. The only one I am certain is not installed is in bold:
  • Carp</li>
  • Config::General</li>
  • HTTP::Request::Common</li>
  • IO::Select</li>
  • LWP::Simple</li>
  • LWP::UserAgent</li>
  • Net::IRC</li>
  • Net::DNS</li>
  • Net::Whois</li>
  • Number::Format</li>
  • SOAP::Lite</li>
  • Unicode::MapUTF8</li>
  • XML::RSS;</li>
Thank you.

Hi Denis,

Looks like Config::General is also an issue. I will try and make an exact list of the missing packages. [In fact I intended to do that before making this post, but I managed to get my account locked again because I timed out :(]

Anyway, I think I configured Putty so it'll be harder to timeout in the future.

Thanks,
melinate

EDIT:
Okay I was able to refine the list... Here is what is not installed, but is required to run bot. If you have any reservations installing any of these just let me know [not sure why you'd have reservations, but it is not my system ;) ]
  • Config::General
    </li>
  • Net::DNS
    </li>
  • Net::Whois
    </li>
  • Number::Format
    </li>
  • SOAP::Lite
    </li>
  • Unicode::MapUTF8
    </li>
  • XML::RSS</li>
Thanks again

I have everything installed, except Number::Format which gives 88% make test failure.
