Solaris 11 full hasn't been released as yet, only 11 Express.

(11 is expected this year though)

Should also point out there has been a license change with the Oracle buy out too that may restrict Polarhome's ability to offer newer versions.

http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news ... -trial.ars

Solaris 10, the official stable version of Sun's UNIX operating system, is no longer available to users at no cost. Oracle has adjusted the terms of the license, which now requires users to purchase a service contract in order to use the software.

(Feeling this!)

Hello,

it depends of the licence cost... if it is a low one time fee or there is a non commercial licence, I can imagine that polarhome will go for it, otherwise we will stuck with version 10 as long it survives hacker attacks.

I have looked around OpenSolaris http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/view/Main/ and it runs already on a virtual host, but it is not ready for open development yet - but it will come soon (depending of administration's time and polarhome's task priority)

Solaris 11's full terms will be expensive for Polarhome, our customers are having to pay annually for "support" which includes patch access etc.

Open Solaris is dead in the water, Oracle with the takeover pulled development back inside which has presented up Solaris 11 Express.

Once the full Solaris 11 is released they will open up the express side as open source again so that might be worth spending the time on.

Or consider something like Open Indiana that was based on Open Solaris before it was taken back inside.

You are right... we should go for Open Indiana instead.
