can't change password, and can't use public key auth

Postby kestas » Mon Nov 14, 2005 4:57 am

hi, I've been at polarhome for aages, don't use my account much but I'd like to change my password and use public key auth, so I can get into my account quicker. I've put my public key in .ssh/authorized_keys , and added it to my agent, yet I still have to log in with my password
When I change my password I get
Code: Select all
[/home/k/kezy]> passwd
Changing local password for kezy
Old Password:
New Password:
Retype New Password:
passwd: pam_chauthtok(): error in service module
[/home/k/kezy]>

Also can we get the freebsd 5.2.1 server updated to 5.4, the latest release in the 5 branch? I hate to think how insecure it must be. if you don't have time I could do it for you

finally, would it be possible to get my nick changed from kezy to kestas?

thanks for staying online all this time, it's amazing how stable this place is, that I still have my account from 2 or 3 years ago

For your other problem you have to wait for zoli to answer.

this is a known problem... and it is not caused by security measure but by some binary upgrade incompatibility.

First task in the TODO list in FreeBSD upgrade to 6.0. This should fix this password problem and lot of other issues.

Bumparooney, would it be possible to get public key auth? It's a lot more convenient that rotating passwords constantly, and more secure than having a constant password. I'd really appreciate this feature, it's always a hassle to log on to Polarhome.

Thanks for sticking around for so long zoli

Hello,

I do not see really what is your problem...
I use public key auth without any problem.

I'll check your home later today.

All is working, regards
