VPN Server on Linux

hi sir,

i am trying to set a vpn server on shell for educational purpose . first i found freeswan and pptpd(poptop) , but can't install each of them . each one need a package or something that is related to root admin.
do you think it is possible to install any other vpn server on shell ??

hi,

to have vpn access to each polarhome host would require too much work, but I can imagine that once gate will get the new hardware and finalize the migration - we can open some kind of vpn access to gate.

I do not have the clear design yet, but look possible to do that.

i just want to thank to all of you , i am an old user of polarhome.

may i ask you to say me just a name of an small and quick vpn server software that can be installed easily. i have not any problem with working hard to do something . i just want to do it.
but i have not any information about vpn and vpn servers.

hi,

I have worked with commercial VPNs like Cisco and Checkpoint VPNs, but these, we can not afford in polarhome environment. :(

Also have tested openvpn http://openvpn.net/ and FreeS/Wan http://www.freeswan.org/

Both run nice...

...maybe with openvpn is easier to start (but I haven't run freeswan in 2.6.x kernel environment)

i tried openvpn , it need something called tun ( it is a virtual nic card) , is it having anyway to install or use it ? because it need root access to be installed.

In Your Opinion , is it possible to compile and run openvpn without root access ?
