AMD 6 ~ 450MHz
128 EDO RAM
10 G hard
CD ROM
16 bit resolution
Built in power speakers
battery is dead, it has to be plugged all the times, unless i find new battery.

And running Win32, tomcat, apache, netbeans, MSAS, J2EE 1.4 1.5, one millmiter close to crash. ;)

It's not very nice carrying it, but imagine that I live 8 months in Salonica, 3 months in Kos and 1 month somewhere else.

So having a laptop is very very helpfull. And of course you can always play Doom3 in the ship while in the 15-hour trip to Kos! Lets not talk about the plane!

i thought they tell everyone to turn off laptops, mobile phones, pdas, etc' on planes/ships? :P

you got a point though, when one travels - one needs a pc with him.
[especially when one = geek]

but what about homesters who never leave their houses, and haven't seen sunlight in years [like me] ? why would we need a laptop ?

You will have in the future, I know! ;)
Now how do you feel in abroad, without your raidmax cobra?
go to Net Cafe? Instead you can surf inet in your Hotel room or in the park.
Two different dimensions. So none of us should left behind without one.

Well as a change from wintels, I have a AlphaStation 200 running OpenVMS V7.3-1 (hoping to upgrade to V8.2 soon)

The specs are ludicrous compared to your PCs:
128 Megs memory, 2GB disk, 10/100 NIC currently running at 10 due to being connected via a hub.

Slow as treacle, but it does everything I want: programming, DCL (shell) scripts, a couple of compilers, Apache.
8)

Look for OpenVMS help on my webpage
Check for QOTD here.
