OpenVMS (alpha) on my laptop

Postby zoli » Sun May 20, 2007 9:46 am

Haha... this is really fun.

I have dreamed for ages to have an alpha laptop or an IA64 based one in order to have VMS running on it.

That's cool, sitting in a plane and working on VMS.

Finally, I have found a solution.

No, an IA64 based laptop I can not appreciate - but an alpha emulator that is freely down-loadable, yes :)

Please take a look at http://www.emulatorsinternational.com/e ... lalpha.htm

This is the home edition of commercial product by the same team that developed the charon vax.

Here are the only problems that I have noticed:
- it runs just on Windows + .net
- it does not like my firewire dvd
- does not recognize USB floppy drives
- wlan nic can not work in shared mode

Otherwise... it works perfect :)
Regards,
Z

You can get free licenses for OpenVMS and about 100 layered products for hobby (non-commercial) use at:
http://www.openvmshobbyist.com/get_yer_licenses/join_user_group.html

New OpenVMS users are also welcome on the news://comp.os.vms NNTP newsgroup.

Good luck and Enjoy!!
